When it comes to the mythical mountain ranges of classic camp cinema, there are endless well-loved ridges and unnumbered iconic peaks. "Pink Flamingos", "Hedwig", "Myra Breckenridge", "Some Like it Hot", "All About Eve" and "Barbarella" are just a few names of note in this catalogue of topographic delights, of which even the most dedicated cinematic trekker could never tire. Yet higher still, nestling far above them all, heaving like a rock-ribbed bosom, sit the impervious twin peaks of camp, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Mommie Dearest. Yes, there’s gay, and then there’s gaaaaaaay.

Online dating is no longer plagued with negative connotations that painted the participants as desperate, socially awkward trolls who were incapable of finding a mate the 'normal' way (duh!). It’s the freakin’ norm. Through the go-to apps like Tinder, Grindr and Scruff, it is now easier than ever to meet a guy for a date or something more casual (Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous” starts playing). Here’s how to not suck at it…

Odds are, if you are not a comic buff, you would most likely have no interest in the movie Ant-Man, unless there was something special... something that made such an undesirable title sound appealing. Then you read the words, “Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd”, and suddenly your interest is piqued.

An Empire for outsiders: How Jussie Smollett could help change hip-hop for the better

Hip-hop is changing, and it’s about damn time. Even though hip-hop as a subculture was itself once born from oppression and rebellion, at times it can seem oppressive and closed-minded in many aspects. Case in point: sexism and homophobia, (too) often the sad flipside of the hyper-masculine expression that is one of the pillars of hip-hop. But one person could very well very soon play a key role in furthering the acceptance of gays in the mainstream – or in this not-so-sub-anymore culture we call hip-hop, anyway: Jussie Smollett, the breakout star from Empire. A role he is already playing, and a great one at that.

ABOUT US

WHAT IS DANDY DICKS AND WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

And who the hell am I? If you’ve been following the blog at all, you may have wondered out of which horny hole this perverted punk has stepped. I won’t reveal too much – a bit of mystery is sexy, right? But a few things may be in order.

First, I was born in that part of the world that most people think is actually Canada, but it’s not. I was born in Alaska. Who would have thought that place could produce more than oil and Sarah Palin – two decidedly unsexy things.

Second, I’m no stranger to sex on screen. I appeared in two arty porn films with DVD releases: one in San Francisco and one here in Berlin. There may be other footage of me out there, but if so, I don’t know where. And yup, I moved to Berlin from gay ol’ San Francisco, where I learned to be a proper fag and how to be a writer all at the same time.

There’s more from San Francisco coming your way via Dandy Dicks, so stay tuned.

But I left San Francisco. And took my heart with me. Five years now in Berlin and I can’t think of a better place to be. I’ve been making it here as a writer ever since and I’m happy to report there’s no going back.

I think I’ve given you enough of the basics. More you’ll just have to find out either through this blog or a little Google. But I hope with that you stick around Dandy Dicks – for this blog and of course, the boys!
