Hey girl! Watch that lisp. On the big screen. In a new documentary from David Thorpe, the mystery of the “gay voice” is explored. We wonder if this film will ever get dubbed in other countries…

Hip-hop is changing, and it’s about damn time. Even though hip-hop as a subculture was itself once born from oppression and rebellion, at times it can seem oppressive and closed-minded in many aspects. Case in point: sexism and homophobia, (too) often the sad flipside of the hyper-masculine expression that is one of the pillars of hip-hop. But one person could very well very soon play a key role in furthering the acceptance of gays in the mainstream – or in this not-so-sub-anymore culture we call hip-hop, anyway: Jussie Smollett, the breakout star from Empire. A role he is already playing, and a great one at that.

Recently I, along with my trusty homogoggles, had the pleasure of watching Arthur Penn’s 1967 film on the duo, starring Warren Beatty as Clyde and Faye Dunaway as Bonnie. While watching the film, I began noticing that Clyde would have preferred Bonnie were a Ronnie, despite the two’s depiction as a couple in most other forms of media.

Originating in 1943 as a distraction from the French in World War II, New York Fashion Week has become a staple to the city. At this point, with the incessant media coverage and talk of the biannual event, there’s not a person on this earth who hasn’t heard of it. But as of recently, if you’re in New York, you may have seen advertisements cascaded throughout the city, your Twitter feed, or local boutiques, an exclusively Men’s Fashion Week is among us, for the first time ever.
And who the hell am I? If you’ve been following the blog at all, you may have wondered out of which horny hole this perverted punk has stepped. I won’t reveal too much – a bit of mystery is sexy, right? But a few things may be in order.
First, I was born in that part of the world that most people think is actually Canada, but it’s not. I was born in Alaska. Who would have thought that place could produce more than oil and Sarah Palin – two decidedly unsexy things.
Second, I’m no stranger to sex on screen. I appeared in two arty porn films with DVD releases: one in San Francisco and one here in Berlin. There may be other footage of me out there, but if so, I don’t know where. And yup, I moved to Berlin from gay ol’ San Francisco, where I learned to be a proper fag and how to be a writer all at the same time.
There’s more from San Francisco coming your way via Dandy Dicks, so stay tuned.
But I left San Francisco. And took my heart with me. Five years now in Berlin and I can’t think of a better place to be. I’ve been making it here as a writer ever since and I’m happy to report there’s no going back.
I think I’ve given you enough of the basics. More you’ll just have to find out either through this blog or a little Google. But I hope with that you stick around Dandy Dicks – for this blog and of course, the boys!
