I'd been to Bangkok already many times before. But as I stepped out of the airport after 15 hours of travel, hit with the muggy air and that nighttime heat, there was that sudden excitement of being somewhere new all over again. A quick cab ride to my hotel with Miley Cyrus on the radio and a welcome drink from reception as I walked in was more than enough to remind me why I love this city. They don't call it the Land of Smiles for no reason.

As summer movie season comes to a close, it’s time we say goodbye to the superheroes and franchises and say hello to more highbrow fare, like The Danish Girl, which stars Eddie Redmayne as a trailblazing transsexual (there has never been a phrase more highbrow than “Eddie Redmayne as a trailblazing transsexual”). So let’s dive into some of the more notable fall releases and judge them on the following criteria: What’s it about, will people be talking about it, and will it get you off?

“I want to be an artist you cannot categorize. You can’t put a box around me. You can’t put anything around me.” Angel Haze was only 21 when they said those words in an interview with The New York Times, but you hardly can attribute this statement to the lightheartedness of youth. Because the rapper – who recently came out as agender and pansexual and has publicly stated a preference for they/them pronouns – clearly defies categorization, and not only in regard to their gender identity (or lack thereof).

Twenty years ago this week, David Fincher created an an instant pop-culture sensation with his 1995 breakthrough film Seven. Two decades later there’s still nothing comparable to his bleak and yet cool cinematic triumph. When it came out we had no idea that Kevin Spacey was in it, much less playing the villain John Doe. Now, while I firmly believe that John Doe is a severely repressed homosexual, that is not because he is being played by Kevin Spacey. Not every character Kevin Spacey plays is gay, they just seem like they are. Which brings us to John Doe, the swishiest serial killer this side of Norman Bates.
And who the hell am I? If you’ve been following the blog at all, you may have wondered out of which horny hole this perverted punk has stepped. I won’t reveal too much – a bit of mystery is sexy, right? But a few things may be in order.
First, I was born in that part of the world that most people think is actually Canada, but it’s not. I was born in Alaska. Who would have thought that place could produce more than oil and Sarah Palin – two decidedly unsexy things.
Second, I’m no stranger to sex on screen. I appeared in two arty porn films with DVD releases: one in San Francisco and one here in Berlin. There may be other footage of me out there, but if so, I don’t know where. And yup, I moved to Berlin from gay ol’ San Francisco, where I learned to be a proper fag and how to be a writer all at the same time.
There’s more from San Francisco coming your way via Dandy Dicks, so stay tuned.
But I left San Francisco. And took my heart with me. Five years now in Berlin and I can’t think of a better place to be. I’ve been making it here as a writer ever since and I’m happy to report there’s no going back.
I think I’ve given you enough of the basics. More you’ll just have to find out either through this blog or a little Google. But I hope with that you stick around Dandy Dicks – for this blog and of course, the boys!
